Reference graph

A reference here is not a hyperlink you trust. It is an observation bound to exact captured bytes and a digest that anyone possessing those bytes can independently recompute. Every reference resolves through the same governed model: external references require capture; internal references require immutable edition-and-digest resolution against the admitted corpus.

Release gate.The unqualified claim “every citation leaves a receipt” is held until the internal resolution-receipt profile is ratified and implemented. Today internal edges still carry a source_capture receipt — a named defect, corrected downstream, not here. What is true now: every external citation attempt leaves a receipt, and every internal citation is version-bound and independently inspectable.

The internal citation graph

Ten admitted records, drawn from their own cross-references. A solid edge resolves to an admitted target at the exact edition and digest the citing record declared. A dashed edge names a target the corpus cites but has not admitted yet — structured incompleteness the graph accounts for, not a broken link it hides. The pin outlives the page

CP-15 cites CP-SIG-24 at edition 3, digest H3. If CP-SIG-24 moves to edition 4 tomorrow, ordinary linking silently changes what the citation appears to mean. Here CP-15 still means H3, and the edge says so. History lives in the edge, not only in page revisions.

An edge, inspected

The same governed edge exposes the verification appropriate to its target class. An external target is captured; an internal governed target is checked against its pinned edition and digest in the admitted pool. Neither borrows the other’s vocabulary.

No resolution verdict is rendered anywhere yet: that finding is owed to a dedicated resolution-receipt profile that has not landed. Pool presence and a matched bound-version digest are byte-checkable today; the resolution act is not.

What the receipt proves, and what it refuses to

The honesty of the graph is in the separation. Capture and pool comparison are provable from bytes; truth is not, and the receipt says so in its own body.

Recomputed from held bytes

  • Capture digest (external) and bound-version digest (internal) recompute to the declared value.
  • External capture receipts pass the pinned SRS schema and the srs.editorial.source_capture.v0.1 profile in arcs-verify.
  • Tamper evidence: flip one stored byte and the verdict flips to FAIL.
  • External capture receipts retain hash_only; raw bytes never enter the receipt.

Explicitly not evaluated

  • Article truth: never asserted.
  • Claim support: whether the source backs the citing sentence is not judged.
  • Source identity: who stands behind the target is left open.
  • Signature: unsigned, proposed-local; real signing awaits a ratified issuer key.
